PRESS RELEASE:
Women’s Imaging Center Campaign Hits Goal
Widespread community support, stimulated by an 11th hour matching funds promise, has met the fund drive goal for Ludington’s new Women’s Imaging Center. The $1.275 million facility at Memorial Medical Center will be fully funded by private donations when it opens this fall.
At the hospital’s annual benefit ball on August 1, a dramatic challenge came from three anonymous business leaders. They pledged to match contributions received by September 1, or until the goal was met, whichever came first. Their offer spurred a surge in donations. The campaign met its goal a few days before the matching funds challenge was to expire.
Thanks to steady donations throughout August, plus the matching funds from the anonymous trio the gap was closed and the campaign reached its $1.275 million goal.
“This project has been embraced by the community, and we are grateful for that support,” said hospital CEO Mark Vipperman. “The generosity and enthusiasm of the response has shown us that this community values quality healthcare.
“The center will open on time this fall,” said Vipperman. “Thanks to our donors, and especially to the matching fund challenge and those who stand behind it, we will have the latest digital mammography technology, and a beautiful new facility for women’s health services.”
Current projections are for the women’s imaging center to open in mid-October. Grateful hospital officials are planning an open house to officially introduce the state-of-the-art facility to the community and the donors who made it possible.

Why is it so important?
Breast Cancer is the most frequently
diagnosed cancer in women.
This year alone, over 40,000 women
will die of breast cancer.
Every 3 minutes another woman in the US is diagnosed with this disease.
Only 49% of the age appropriate 11,500 women in our service area
get their annual mammogram.

51% are NOT having their mammograms. Almost 6,000  women, who are NOT testing.
(Our neighbors, friends and family.)
WOW!

Early detection is the best protection.

This is why it is so important.

What if one of those women
is a woman you love?

SCHEDULE YOUR MAMMORGRAM!
NO EXCUSES- THE TEST IS NO FUN BUT IT IS ESSENTIAL IN SAVING YOUR LIFE.
* "I'm too busy." - The procedure only takes about 15 minutes. There is a BIG difference between stage 1 and stage 4 breast cancers.  It will consume ALL of your time if caught late.
* "It's not in my family." - The number of cases due to genetics is actually the minority.  The biggest risk factors are being a woman and getting older.
* "I do self-exams." - The BEST approach is an annual digital mammogram, a doctor's exam and your own self-exams.
* "I'm too young." - Even though the American Cancer Society wants to see annual mammograms begin at age 40, some women should start sooner.  Your doctor can tell you when you should begin based on your risk factors.
* "They're painful." - You can control the discomfort.  Experienced radiology technologists work with you to make the experience the best it can be for you.  Ask how.
* "I can't afford it."  - We can help you find a no - or low cost option.  Call MMC to know your option.  You can't afford not to.

NO EXCUSES! SCHEDULE NOW!
